I am anxiously awaiting the upcoming book The Private World of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge.  The 280-page work is being published by Vendome Press on September 1, 2009 and is available for pre-order on  The volume includes all eight homes of the famous French couturier and his lifelong business partner, showcasing their unparalleled art and furniture collections.  I am eager to see the images of the Rue Babylone apartment and their Villa Majorelle in Marrakech.  All the photos were taken by Ivan Terestchenko following YSL’s death in 2008, but prior to the collections be auctioned off.  It’s hard to believe such ravishing interiors now stand empty…

On my first night in Europe as a young girl I sat one table away from the legend himself over dinner at Hotel Costes.  We had just arrived in Paris and I was in a complete daze.  My hostess, Suzanne Tucker  of Tucker & Marks interior design, quietly pointed him out as we sat down and I couldn’t help but stare at the next table in awe.   I was but fourteen, too young to fully grasp his importance in the history of 20th-century-fashion, but old enough to recognize his name from the pages of Vogue.  That night we returned to our hotel in a Rolls Royce down the Champs-Elysees under a full moon.  I sat in the back seat pinching myself of our YSL sighting.  It was a welcome to Paris one never forgets.
