Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, friends! I hope you’ve all recovered from last night’s bubbly. We spent the evening with our favorite Danish neighbors. The festivities commenced with a viewing of Queen Margrethe II’s televised speech (tradition dictates you drink every time she mumbles, drops her eyeglasses, or loses a cue card…bless her heart), followed by a beautiful three course take-out meal from Restaurant Cofoco. After a hilarious game of charades, we concluded the night marveling over the fireworks display from the balcony. Danes love to party and certainly know how to ring in the New Year with style.

2016 was a wild adventure and, while there were plenty of good times, I’m glad to see it go. The highlights in short: we moved from Chicago to Copenhagen and found our dream apartment, I celebrated my 30th birthday with my dear friend Jane in Vienna, traveled with my mom to Berlin and Paris, made a summer escape to Milan and Lake Como with Simon, and made solo trips to Stockholm, Amsterdam, Antwerp, and Marrakech. We also celebrated one year of marriage in Paris, made multiple trips to London to see family, underwent fertility treatment, and built an amazing network of international friends here in Denmark.

In 2017, I hope to slow down a bit. Perhaps I’ll be pregnant and spend time nesting. I haven’t set strict resolutions, my hope is to simply be mindful, be patient, and be grateful. I hope to hold more dinner parties, blog more often (let me know what kind of posts you’d like to see!), read more books, and perhaps explore another country or two. If I am so lucky to become a mother, that would be the greatest gift of all.

What were the highlights of your 2016? Any resolutions you care to share? Wishing you all a happy, healthy 2017 full of friendship, love, and inspiration. Cheers to new beginnings!

Always love your updates Katie! I read a book about hygge over the weekend and I even thought of you on your Danish adventure!

My highlight of 2016 is simply having clarity over what I want to achieve in 2017 – buy a house and go 100% freelance. And build a better community of supportive, savvy friends.

Happy New Year! I would love to see more guides in 2017. I think your style is great and I’d love to see what you think are the basics to building a great/chic/timeless wardrobe. What’s worth investing in?

I agree with Abby–some old school classics lists (and where to find them!) would be great for paring down our wardrobes in the new year. Also, I like the idea of featuring your readers in some style or beauty posts. This is a great community and would love to see some other real women in the posts!

Hi Katie, happy new year! I just tried to send you an email, but for some reason the address on your contact tab is failing to send. Is there somewhere I can reach you? Thank you!

    Katie,
Wishing you a Happy New Year and I really enjoy and look forward to reading your blog. Since you posted that lovely image of your home, I hope you don’t mind my asking- but is your sofa the IKEA Stocksund? And if so, do you like it and has it held up well? We are looking for two George Sherlock/English styled sofas for a library space and were considering the Stocksund for the shape and the price point- my very practical husband, thinks getting a sofa from IKEA is a terrible idea.
    Thanks for your thoughts- Kumi
p.s.- if not Stocksund, would you mind relaying the make of your sofa?

Kumi – It is Ikea! We actually love it, it may just be my favorite sofa I’ve ever owned. The seats are really deep (lots of room for fun throw pillows) and comfy. Given the awesomely affordable IKEA price point we’ve been very pleased! Hope this helps!
