The Paris Journal

I joked on twitter this afternoon that until I can move permanently to Paris I’ll simply follow a million Parisian instagram accounts. Well, I was thrilled when my friend Nichole responded introducing me to her new project, The Paris Journal. I immediately downloaded it on my trusty iPad mini and was whisked away to the the winding streets of Montmartre. The digital book “combines fine art photography and minimalist video into visual stories of Paris neighborhoods.” Living vicariously just got a whole lot more fun…

And speaking of Parisian instagram accounts, a few favorites: parisinfourmonths, colettestore, jasminetartine, willsheloveparis, makingmagique, alixcherry… Do you follow any Parisians I should know about…?

Decorating Wish List

I’ve caught the nesting bug again. A few smart pieces that caught my eye…

Clockwise from top left: 1/ A Serge Mouille sconce – oh let’s be honest, any Mouille fixture would do… 2/ A Hugo Guinness “classic” print because it’s just that… 3/ A set of Caroline cups and saucers – meet my latest china obsession… 4/ A ferocious throw pillow because leopard is a neutral… 5/ A brass side table – isn’t it painfully chic? 6/ A wicker bar cart for strong summer cocktails… 7/ Juliska’s blue and white country estate because your granddaughter will thank you someday…

Salvatore Ferragamo L’Icona

You may have already spotted it on Matchbook, but the new Ferragamo campaign is so chic it should be shouted from rooftops. Shot by the brilliant Claiborne Swanson Frank, the series spotlights 21 women of great style in their favorite Vara flats. How sharp does Lauren Santo Domingo look above? I’m officially saving for a classic black pair of my own.

Sofia Coppola’s New York Apartment

“My apartment is pretty calm and restrained. I like a clean white backdrop set off by masses and masses of pink peonies.” -Sofia Coppola

Yesterday I danced the night away to Phoenix at the Apollo theater and it got me thinking – just how cool are Sofia Coppola and Thomas Mars? The couple’s old Nolita apartment above is pretty much perfection. They’ve since moved to the West Village, but I think this light-filled loft would suit me just fine. In her House & Garden feature (top image) Sofia noted, “I like to live with an uncluttered backdrop, to keep the focus on art.” A rather smart move when you’ve been collecting the likes of Elizabeth Peyton, Hemlut Newton, and William Klein since your teens. A girl can dream…

Punk: Chaos to Couture

This past week I slipped into the Met to check out the new Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibit and found my head spinning. Studded Burberry leather jackets, Elizabeth Hurley’s iconic Versace safety pin gown, countless early designs by Vivienne Westwood…! The whole thing left you yearning to dress a bit edgier. Of course I couldn’t resist the poster above – shredded Chanel never looked so chic.

Exhibit open May 9 – August 14, 2013
